Hand Crafters of Beeswax, Aromatherapy and Soy Wax Candles
Beeswax Candles: Busy Bees!
Beeswax is special. It is a 100% natural, renewable fuel for light. Though it resembles other waxes it is entirely unique in its chemistry and molecular characteristics.
Beeswax is derived from the nectar of flowers, just like honey, and is essentially a further elaboration of honey itself. Beeswax is produced in the glands of the worker bee. The bees chew the wax until it reaches a plastic-like state and is then formed into the familiar honeycomb pattern. For every forty pounds of honey produced by the bees, one pound of beeswax results. That’s a lot of honey…that’s a lot of bees!
Besides releasing its naturally sweet, honey-like aroma, our beeswax candles help regulate the quality of the air you breathe. Beeswax is the only natural substance that emits negative ions when burned. These negative ions draw out toxins, dust, pollen, mold and mildew from the air, and you can really feel it.
Our beewax line consists of 100% pure, triple-filtered beeswax and unbleached 100% cotton wicks. Our wax is golden yellow and burns clean and bright with minimal soot buildup around the wick. Beeswax candles burn a very long time, almost twice as long as other waxes.
Being a natural substance, the color and shade of beeswax varies. We hand-select our wax and provide the brightest and lightest shade possible.
Over time, all Beeswax develops a powdery film on its surface. This is called “bloom”. It is not a sign of deterioration, but a natural tannin produced from the wax. Simply remove bloom with a dry cloth to reveal the beeswax shine.
We offer a variety of whimsical beeswax shapes for every occasion-please let us know if you have any creative ideas for additions to the Sunbeam Beeswax Collection.
