Sunbeam Candles contributes 10% of the profits of The Candle For Peace to four humanitarian organizations all working toward creating equality in the realms of health care, mental health, housing, social services, political and social justice, and the health of our food systems.  These organizations are working in our very own neighborhoods as well as our greater global community to spread the light to people in need.

Pollinator Partnership

Sunbeam Candles is committed not only to the health and well being of our employees and customers, but the health and well being of the living thing we depend on for our product.  Bees!  We are so excited to be able to support the Pollinator Partnership.  This organization is a wonderful balance of research and education.  We all have the capacity to do our part to support the health of very important pollinators.  Pollinator Partnership truly takes a strength-based approach to education and research.

Pollinator Partnership takes a pro-active approach of executing  their mission  to promote the health of pollinators (not only bees), critical to food and ecosystems, through conservation, education, and research. NAPPC (North American Pollinator Protection Campaign), National Pollinator Week, and the Ecoregional Planting Guides are the signature initiatives of Pollinator Partnership .   NAPPC supports  local, national, and international groups and organizations who focus on the health of resident and  migratory pollinating animals in North America. The Pollinator Partnerships also  coordinates with existing projects that address specific pollinator habitats or migratory corridors. NAPPC works with over 120 organizations acting as a liaison between government, non-government,  private and non-profit groups, colleges and universities, as well as international efforts to keep the pulse on the global health of all the complex parts of pollination.  NAPPC acts as a bridge between all of the most important conversations and research that is happening today.  They work hard to make sure efforts are not being duplicated and the knowledge obtained through research is available to all.

The Ecoregional Planting Guides is a fabulous resource available to everyone through the Pollinator Partnership website.  This planting guide will help you chose plants that are desired by pollinators.  This is one of the easiest ways that all of us can participate in restoring and supporting the health of our bee population as well as all pollinators.  Plant pollinator friendly.  Pollinator Partnership also hosts National Pollinator Week.  A week of playful education on pollinator issues.

We feel proud to support Pollinator Partnership because of the diverse and asset based approach they take to supporting the health of not only bees but all pollinators.  They are not an organizations that is only knowledge based, they are action based.  They provide tools available to all of us to educate ourselves as well as our communities.  If you are passionate about pollinators this organization has a number of resources available on their website, from school garden kits to classroom curriculums, conservation grant information to an APP available for your phone that is a planting guide.  Next time your at your local greenhouse, you can call on you handy APP to see whether the plant your choosing is a pollinator friendly plant!

Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

www.doctorswithoutborders.org

MSF works Globally in 60 countries to serve people whose survival is threatened by violence (South Sudan), neglect (CAR), or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, malnutrition (Chad), exclusion from health care (Bahrain), or natural disasters (Haiti). MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need. The work that MSF provides is some of the hardest and most disparate in the world; and while most of what one sees is tragic and devastating beyond anything we can comprehend, you will find the glimmers of hope and survival. In Haiti a new emergency surgery medical facility was just completed adding 107 beds to the city of Port-Au-Prince. This is the third new facility since the earthquake in 2010. Making the efforts in Haiti the largest emergency operation in MSF history. The facility is called Nap Kenbe, Creole for “staying well”.
